A Segment is a part of a Form that can be saved in Docomotion, under a unique name, and integrated, during the  design stage, into a Form.

The Segment must be based on the same Main Object and on the same Word template as the Form.

Segments greatly reduce design time and the need to design from scratch standard portions of Forms found within the Form system.

Segments can be created in Docomotion as well as initiated in the Designer and stored in Docomotion. Once a Segment is published it is available to all Forms based on the same Main Object.

Segments can be viewed in the Docomotion Forms tab with the special icon I_Segment. In the Forms tab you can also open the Segment for editing.

When you add a Segment to a Form, you can add it as:

Linked: Any changes to the Segment, once published, are automatically reflected in the Form and in any future output generated from the Form.

Unlinked: Changes in the Segment do not affect Form or the generated output (equivalent to “Copy – Paste” of all Segment content).

It is not recommended to add more than 5 segments to a Form.

Creating Segments

You can create and edit Form Segments in Docomotion in the same way you create regular Forms.

You can also create a Segment from an existing Form directly from inside the Designer.

To create a Segment inside the Designer:

1.  Open the Form from which you want to create the Segment.

2.  Select all of the Form content (i.e. text, tables, shapes, etc) you want to include in the new Segment.

3.  In the Designer Toolbar, click Segment > Save.

4.  Enter a suitable name and description.

5.  If you want to add the segment as linked, check Insert as linked.

6.  Click OK; the segment is automatically published and can be viewed in the Docomotion Forms tab with the special icon I_Segment.

Note: If you selected to save the Segment as Linked, it is removed from the Form and inserted back as a Linked Segment.

To create Segment in Docomotion:

1.  In Docomotion Forms tab click New.

2.  In the New Form tab enter a name for the Segment and from the Form Type dropdown list select Form Segment.

3.  Add all required information (see Creating a New Form).

5.  Click Open Designer.

6.  Design the Segment as you would design a Form (see Designing the Form). When you finish click upload the Segment to the Cloud IUpload.

7.  In the Docomotion Forms tab, select the Segment ( I_Segmenticon) to display the new Segment page.

Adding Segments to a Form

When you add a Segment to a Form, you can add it as Linked or Unlinked. You can only add Segments to Forms based on the same main Object.

Segments added as unlinked can be edited in the Form as any other text you add. Segments added as linked cannot be edited. The Segment can only be edited by editing the Segment Form and publishing it. Publishing the changes in the Segment automatically changes the Segment you inserted into the Form as Linked.

To add a Segment as Unlinked:

1.  Open the Form to which you want to add the Segment in the Designer.

2.  In the Design pane locate the cursor where you want to add the Segment.

3.  In the Designer Toolbar, click Segment > Insert.

The Insert Segment window opens with available Segments.

4.  Select the Segment you want to add and click OK. The Segment is inserted into the Form, and the Segment data tags are added to the Form data tags pane. You can edit the Segment data without changing the Segment Form.

To add a Segment as Linked:

1.  Open the Form to which you want to add the Segment in the Designer.

2.  In the Design pane locate the cursor where you want to add the Segment.

3.  In the Designer Toolbar, click Segment > Insert.

The Insert Segment window opens with available Segments.

5.  Enter a name that will be displayed in the Form tree and click OK.

Best Practice Tip: Use the same name as the Segment.

The Segment is inserted into the Form and the Segment with its data tags appears in the Form pane with the Segment icon I_Segmnet. You cannot edit the Linked Segment in the Designer.

Editing Segments

To edit a Segment:

1. In Salesforce open the Docomotion App.

2. In the Forms tab select the Segment you want to edit (Segments can be identified by the special icon I_Segment).

3.  Click Open Designer; the Designer Opening window appears.

After a slight pause, the Designer appears.

4.  Edit the Segment as required.

5.  When you finish upload the edited Segment to the cloud.

6.   In the Docomotion Forms tab, select the Segment to display the Segment page.

7.  Click Publish to publish the edited Segment.

All Forms in which the Segment was added as Linked are automatically updated.

When generating a Form using the edited Segment do not use View Template, since this displays the first version of the Segment.
